Sprinkles

The LINQ
3545 South Las Vegas Boulevard
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 733-0522

I could jump for joy, I love Sprinkles! I love the design of their stores, I love the look of their products and packaging, I love how delicious their treats are! We made multiple trips back to Sprinkles during our stay in Vegas.
Everything tends to look better at night in Vegas - sparkly lights!
The famous cupcake ATM!!! We saw many people use it with such happiness and excitement when the cupcake was dispensed. I wanted to try, but it only takes credit card and I didn't want to pay for the exchange rate.
But it doesn't matter. You can get the same cupcakes in store! But we were here for their frozen treats.
I spy waffle cones and red velvet waffle cones!
If you order a Sprinkles sundae, you get a scoop of ice cream between a cupcake bottom and top. If your order a Sprinkles sandwich, you get a scoop of ice cream between two cupcake tops!
You can also get cookie sundaes, or a cookie sandwich with a scoop of ice cream in between.
We tried their yummy caramelized Cap'n Crunch ice cream which is what it sounds like, Cap'n crunch cereal sprinkled into milky Cap'n Crunch flavoured ice cream. And the strawberry ice cream, sometimes when the heat is too much, I default to fruits instead of chocolate or overly sweet desserts.
And our favourite, the blood orange sorbet, which is a dairy-free citrus sorbet flavored by zesty blood oranges. Perfectly refreshing!

Seconds

Happy book birthday to Seconds by Bryan Lee O'Malley! I've waited a very long time for this book to release. You might be thinking, so what? Everyone had to wait a long time for this book. Well, that's true, so I guess I should rephrase and say that I've waited a very long time to share these cupcakes with you! I made these two years ago (May 2012) based on a rough draft of Seconds that Bryan's Canadian editor kindly shared with me. The rough draft I had was only 14 pages long at that time and thank goodness the look of the main character didn't change!
If you're still trying to place Bryan Lee O'Malley's name, he's the author of the bestselling Scott Pilgrim series (there's even a film, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World). Seconds is his new stand-alone graphic novel about a restaurant owner named Katie.
Katie is going through some tough times as she attempts to open up a second restaurant, make friends, find love, and keep a house spirit happy.
She's given a second chance to magically alter her outcome (by consuming mushrooms), but abuses her new-found power to keep changing destiny. So, uh, you know. Nothing good can come from that.
By the way, the cupcakes were vegan. Some of you might get that reference from Scott Pilgrim!
Hope you get a chance to read Seconds or pick up some of Bryan's other works. If not, I'm not sure that a magic mushroom will be able to help you!

Fondant Dinosaur Round-Up 2

It is time to do another round-up featuring your fondant dinosaur cupcakes! We left off our round-up here and we have been joyfully hearing from more and more of you. We tried our best to post these in the order that they appeared, if we missed yours, please let us know.

1. Shared on flickr by Melinda from Fantasy Cupcakes in the UK:

We love how she added spots on some of the dinosaurs and those eyes, you just get lost in them! A great set and she even made dinosaur bones and prints.

2. Posted by Kim M. Byers from the Celebration Shoppe blog in Ohio:

There are the dinosaur cake toppers she made!

Cole is one lucky birthday boy!

You have to visit the blog for the full effect - the dessert table, the dino-ROAR party ideas, and the decorations! Great colour co-ordination and attention to details.

3. Posted by Sandi Oh from Oh, just put a cupcake in it.... in Minnesota:

So many dinosaur cupcakes! Once again, we love the added touch of patterns on the dinosaurs. They turned out really good and she made a volcano cake:

Do you want to see something cool? Sandi also posted a video showing the volcano eruption using dry ice.

4. Posted by Christine from Pure Joy Events in DC:

Here is the full post about their DinoFOUR Birthday party. It looked like a lot of fun, we would have loved to do a dinosaur hunt as a kid!

Love how the cake stands are decorated with a grass border. The cupcakes are from Georgetown Cupcakes, you may have heard about their show on TLC, DC Cupcakes?

5. Posted by Netty from Babycakes in New York:

We hope that Louis loved them!

Grinning T-Rexes make us grin too! Nom!

6. Photo shared by Carol Delp from facebook:

Smooth frosting for the cake and great use of icing for the nest too! I thought the eggs were jellybeans or candy, but Carol confirmed that they were also made from fondant.

7. Photo shared by Stephanie Bouffiou from facebook:

Smiley dinosaurs, nice and neat grass frosting too. We know how tiring piping lots of tiny grass can be, so great job! What flavours are the cupcakes? We see two colours...

8. Photo shared by Darlene Grucci Darden from facebook:

Great photo! Volcano and dinosaurs for Sean's birthday.

9. Photo shared by Auradell from the comments below. Visit her blog, she also made an amazing guitar cake!

This guy is ready to party!! Such a cute hat!

Thank you to everyone for sharing! It looks like most boys turning 3 or 4 are really into dinosaurs! We like seeing that our dinosaur tutorials are being found useful, so don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions or suggestions for future tutorials. =)

Can you believe that this was Erin's first fondant project? She even homemade the marshmallow fondant and created these adorable smiling stegosauruses for her 5-year-old!

These cuties are made by Heather from Stepford Life. Her rrrroooooaring good pterodactyl and brontosaurus:

Here are the ones Stefanie and her husband made for their son's second birthday, it was her first time working with fondant!!

The Cupcakery

Rain, rain, go away!

It rained all Friday and Saturday, but that didn't stop us from going out and having a sweet weekend.

On Friday, Howard and I celebrated our anniversary. Awwww.
Here is our delicious dessert from Madeline's. This was a chocolate molten cake with jack fruit, a hazelnut crumb, served with vanilla bean ice cream.

After lunch on rainy Saturday, we went to The Cupcakery and picked up three cupcakes for dessert.

Look at the rain! But surprisingly good lighting for the photos... Howard picked the Black & White, which is marble cake topped with a chocolate and vanilla swirl.

We also got Goin' Bananas, a banana cake filled with butterscotch chips topped with banana buttercream. Banana buttercream!!! It was odd at first bite, but then you could really taste the banana. And the banana cake was good, some places say "cake" but produce "muffins." This was a banana cake. So thumbs up!

Finally, we ate the Maple cupcake... this one isn't listed on their website! Don't mind the mess I made! I was eating in the car!

I didn't get a photo of the storefront in the rain, but visit their website. They have photos of their store posted in the gallery.
